05-27-2009 Temptation (Part III)

Temptation...everyone faces it. We know that we, as Christians, have to resist it. But exactly how do we do that? What does scripture say about when temptation attacks, our vulnerability, and what God has given us to become victorious? Pastor Brandon Ahu shares with us what scripture says about temptation and his own personal experience with being tempted and how he learned to overcome it.

4.22.09 - Jesus, Our Substitute

This message is a broad look at who Jesus was when he lived on earth among us and focuses more on His death as our substitute. As sinners, we deserve death but Jesus takes our place. Looking at the 2 Old Testament traditions of the Day of Atonement and Passover, we see that Jesus' sacrificial death had ancient prophetic roots. The service ends with an action step and communion.

Here are the main points and scriptures from the message

1. Jesus was God with us
John 1:1,14 – 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. - 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

2. I am a sinner
Galatians 5:19-21 - 19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (NLT)

3. Sin requires death
Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

4. Jesus died for my sin
1st Corinthians 15:3-5 - 3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5Substitutionary – took the place/penalty of our sin

5. Jesus gave His life for me, I will live my life for Him
2nd Corinthians 5:14-15
14For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

3.25.09, Worship

Every human enjoyment results in praise. This message talked about how we need to praise God as we enjoy Him, ultimately leading to a deeper worship of who He is.

This was a different kind of service. We integrated both worship and message together, teaching for about 5-10 minutes on each point, then worshiping God with songs that related to that point.

Here are the main points with scripture references below.

1. We worship God because He is infinitely greater than we are
a.Job 38:3-7
b.Psalm 19:1-4

2.A worshiping heart desires God above all else
a.Psalm 42:1-2
b.Psalm 63:1 (ESV)

3.Outside actions reflect inward feelings
a.Psalm 141:1-2
b.Psalm 51:10-12
